Transgender Inquiry - Summary of Submissions
Transgender Inquiry -Summary of Submissions
- ( Human Rights Commission - New Zealand Published in March 2007 ) I think that you will find this useful and it is about time that we had this type of Inquiry in Australia.
From:
Kathy Noble Dear Commissioner, I know that I reside in Australia, but have been trying to help Transsexual people living in New Zealand who were born in the UK. I have had a 20 month fight with the UK DCA and the Gender Recognition Panel in order that we could find a workable solution to our problems in achieving our Amended Birth Certificate (BC) After this time and much negotiation, I am happy to announce that a suitable way of overcoming these problems was accepted in September/October 2006, which allows us to be able to receive our Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) followed by our BC. After this anything to do with the Pensions and Tax departments is automatically corrected to show our new name and gender. I have offered to send details of this, but was told by one of your staff “This is for New Zealand submissions only” OK, but it is doing a great disservice, to those born in UK and now domiciled in New Zealand. I again offer my services in the hope that there will be a better response! I am in Wellington from the 27th of May until the 5th of June, so could a meeting be arranged where I can put to you what has been achieved between DCA in UK and myself. It is now used all over the World for those living outside of UK, but born there. Please, do look at our web site. Go to Advocacy then look at The History of Case by Case Basis, Standard Track applications using the Case by Case Basis, Dear Baroness Ashton 07/07/2006 and Case by Case Basis 12/07/2006 I look forward to your reply. Love and Peace, Kathy Anne Noble
-----Original Message----- I think that this as a draft report should be of interest to all. It is about time that something along these lines was undertaken in Australia. Kathy Anne Noble President of Changeling Aspects

Neroli Holmes Thanks for sending this report Kathy - we'll look at it closely here at the ADCQ Neroli Holmes Deputy Commissioner Phone: 3247 0902 Fax: 3247 0960 E-mail: neroliholmes@adcq.qld.gov.au

Kathy Noble [mailto:knoble@iinet.net.au] Thankyou Neroli, There are some useful items in there, but I’m afraid not too much to do with people born outside of NZ. I suppose that is no different to OZ really! I have sent a copy of this to the A-Gs office as well, but recently, apart from a meeting with people form the Justice Dept, we are no further forward. I do realise that the Government have just a few problems to sort out! I have pointed out in a letter to the A-G, that I started asking about a GRC over 3 years ago now, and that to date we have had no response what so ever. We are all very frustrated, especially in the light of what HRC in NZ are doing. As I said, it would be nice if something along these lines was set up here in OZ, so that we can make them aware of what is happening. I hope to have a meeting with HRC when in Wellington at the end of May. You might be interested to know that I have opened a dialogue with the Arch Bishop of Canterbury’s office, in regard to the plight of TS people, World wide. I have received an answer from a Bishop there who is willing to put out feelers for us. Have also been voted onto the Board of Directors of QAHC! Love and Peace, Kathy |
