Roberta Cowell
I first read about Roberta Cowell in 1953 when I was in the Royal Air Force. Her story came after Christine Jorgenson’s, so I was surprised to learn that she had SRS in 1951, a clear 2 years before Christine Jorgenson. It is interesting in the fact that she really did disappear into the background after the furore of her “Outing” in 1953. I wonder if she is still alive, as she would be in her mid eighties now.
Please read her story, as much of it has not changed greatly over the years, as to what we endure now. Her story covers her life before SRS, life after and very notably, the medical situation of the times, as in many ways, nothing in some respects has greatly altered.
