Birth Certificate And Rights
It seems entirely inappropriate that waving a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) or a passport about, creates a Woman or a Man. As UK authorities pointed out to us, very forcefully, “you are not legal until you have received an amended Birth Certificate (BC). The GRC only prepares the way for this and the passport is given to save us from humiliation and embarrassment” That is what we were told, so I fail to see how it is any different for those residing in UK, as to those residing outside of UK, but born there.
I know that we talk about whether the BC should be regarded as the prime document for the recognition of our sex. However, in our case I think that it must, as we are now really re-registering the birth, or at least, re-birth of someone in not just their sex, but their name as well! Therefore, this must be accepted as the evidence for our being!
We talk about our rights! Conversely, do we consider the rights of all others, who ostensibly have had those rights much longer than us! We most probably enjoyed those same rights when our former selves, so why now do we consider that our rights should over ride all others? This is in order that they can be used for our specific benefit, without any thought of how those rights may affect all others around us. In certainty, many may not even be aware of what we term “Our Rights”
You can talk of rights, but they are only shallow and at best a stop gap until recognised with an amended BC. As has been stated, various groups are finding loopholes and ways of not accepting the laws as enacted in the Gender Recognition Act 2004 (GRA) This should send alarm bells through the Transsexual (TS) community, as what else is there to be found, that can be circumvented via these loopholes?
So I cannot for the life of me, see where waving a piece of paper with female on it, gives us entry into the World of Woman. This is an area that we have to definitely work hard at, in order to earn acceptance into their World! To be accepted into their World we have to prove our femininity, or otherwise. We have to show understanding of their feelings and also empathy for them. We are an unknown factor entering their World, and this is why many shy away from us!
Again we have to offer them time to come to understand where we are coming from. Many of us, although low in Testosterone, still adopt the Male high ground. This will definitely exclude us from ever being accepted into their World.
This is why I firmly believe that for a period of years after Sexual Re-Assignment Surgery (SRS) we are still finding our way. When you can truly say that you feel empathy with other women, and understand their reticence in accepting us, then you are on the way. It may take years, but when it happens, you will know, as you now feel and think as a woman, and you could find yourself in the same situation if faced with a Trans woman waving that piece of paper, or something that should not be there!
As I personally have found, it is all well and good that rules and regulations are enacted for our benefit, but without the rest of society being totally aware of them, they can be pretty useless. We have a duty to educate those around us, as do the governments that have enacted these legislations, so that it is understood by all and what are the affects they will have to face. This is not just levelled at the TS community, but the general public as a whole!
If a survey was carried out on these legislations, I would expect that few outside, and many in the TS community, would even be aware that these legislations exist.
